Advocacy

One Powerful Voice: Representing the Interests of Ontario Seniors

MROO speaks on behalf of OMERS retirees. We share your views with OMERS and all levels of government and represent our membership on legislative matters that affect retirees.

We advocate on your behalf and with your input in these areas:

  • OMERS plan governance and sustainability

  • Retirement income: public programs and policies

  • Seniors’ independent living: public policies and programs for home care and community support across Ontario

  • Long-Term Care options and public policies in Ontario and Federally with a focus on not-for-profit care

  • Healthcare coverage for seniors in Ontario and Nationally

  • MROO partners with like-minded not-for-profit organizations that represent the interests of seniors in Ontario. If you would like to partner with MROO, please contact us at marketing@mroo.org.

  • See the full MROO Advocacy Program document here.

Protecting Your OMERS Pension

The Municipal Retirees Organization Ontario (MROO), the Police Pensioners Association Ontario (PPAO) and the Ontario Retired Fire Fighters Association (ORFFA) form the "Retiree Group" established by the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) in its By-laws. The OMERS Retiree Group (ORG) is represented by one member on the OMERS Sponsors Corporation (SC) Board and one member on the OMERS Administration Corporation (AC) Board. Find out more here about the ORG and our OMERS representatives.

Housing in Ontario

In 2020 MROO established a Housing Support for Ontario Seniors Committee (HSOS) to develop a strategy for long-term care housing in Ontario and advocate for other housing options for seniors.

Healthcare in Ontario

MROO continues to advocate for equitable and accessible healthcare for all Ontario seniors, including long-term care home and COVID-19 relief efforts. In 2020 and 2021, during COVID-19, MROO donated over $63,000 to organizations across Ontario in need (food banks, Salvation Army, shelters). In 2021, MROO advocated for the re-implementation of free and accessibly eye care for all Ontario seniors. Find out more here.
