3 Types of Memberships
Find Out More
Associate Members are employees of an OMERS employer and enrolled in the pension plan but, unlike a Life member, are not yet in receipt of an OMERS pension.
An Associate Member shall have the same rights or privileges of a Life Member except that an Associate Member is not entitled to vote or hold office.
An Associate Member becomes a Life Member immediately upon retirement and must be in receipt of a pension which is, in whole or in part, paid by OMERS. There is no new or additional membership fee payable to become a Life member, but you must first notify us upon your retirement.
Affiliate Members are active or retired employees from “other public sector employers,” that are not part of the OMERS pension plan, or are OMERS Retirees that have opted to receive the commuted value of their OMERS pension
“Other public sector employers” means a government organization that is primarily funded by government in areas of service such as but not limited to health care, education (including post-secondary), public utilities and electricity, childcare, and care of senior citizens.
An Affiliate Member may attend their Annual Zone meeting, take advantage of other programs, educational opportunities, and service offerings but cannot vote or hold office.
