McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA)

The McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) works to help Canada’s population live longer lives and enjoy those years in good health. We do this by supporting research projects that bring together different academic perspectives to tackle the complex challenges Canadians face as they age. MIRA encourages researchers to work directly with older adults—and the organizations that work with and serve them—to make sure research results reflect the diverse ways that people can experience aging and speak to the stated needs of older adults themselves.
MIRA is committed to extending the impact of its work beyond the lab. Through its community engagement platform, Voice, older adults can contribute to research directly and learn about the outcomes of projects they are involved in. McMaster is also home to the Optimal Aging Portal, a free online platform which shares the latest research on aging in plain language formats, including webinars, short articles and e-learning opportunities. Access the portal here. MIRA also hosts a local event series each year to connect research with the community and encourage people to engage with us on the topics they are passionate about.
