National Seniors Day

October 1st is National Seniors Day in Canada.

This is a day for all Canadians to celebrate older adults across Canada. This older adult could be a parent, a co-worker, a grandparent or a friend. MROO is proud to acknowledge the contributions that older adults have made to our communities across Canada.

This year we celebrate the 15th anniversary of National Seniors Day. It also marks the 60th anniversary of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), a cornerstone of Canada's retirement income system that has helped provide financial security to Canadians for six decades.

Show your gratitude for the older adults in your life. Here are some ideas:

  • say “thank you” to your parents, grandparents or older friends.

  • visit, call or connect in person - take time to chat with an older adult in your life

  • run errands/assist for an older person in your life (i.e. take out their garbage, offer to rake their leaves)

  • take a walk together

  • help an older adult with their technology challenges

  • volunteer with an organization that supports older adults in your area

  • talk to your family about the contributions their family has made on their community

  • donate to a charity that supports old adults in Canada

 

Events for Older Adults

AGE-WELL AgeTech Discovery Day will take place on October 1, 2026, to mark National Seniors Day, with technology awareness events in nine locations across seven provinces and virtually, focused on AgeTech innovations that support aging in place and healthy aging. National Seniors Day - Gallery Tour for Seniors in the Art Gallery of Algoma

Join us at the Art Gallery of Algoma (AGA) to celebrate National Seniors Day on Thursday October 1st, 2026. Step into the wonderful world of Canadian art history with a thoughtful guided tour of Canadian Gems, an exhibition that will present a selection of inspiring pieces from our permanent collection. AGA Public Programming & Education Coordinator Evangeline Mann will introduce you to landscapes by the celebrated Group of Seven painters, colourful abstract canvases by members of the Painters Eleven, and artworks by renowned Indigenous artists, including Norval Morrisseau, that highlight their distinct artistic styles and visual storytelling. Seniors Concert at the BWG Leisure Centre

National Senior’s Day is on October 1, 2026, and the BWG Leisure Centre is celebrating with a Senior’s Concert! Seniors of BWG are invited to enjoy a FREE concert featuring the talented Cruisin’ Vocal Band. The concert will take place in the Gymnasium of the BWG Leisure Centre on October 1 with the concert beginning at 2:00PM. Seniors can enjoy complimentary snacks, tea, and coffee throughout the afternoon.
