Housing Options for Seniors in Ontario

There are many housing options available to seniors as you transition into retirement. The housing options available to you will depend on your own personal circumstances, needs, and preferences. You will need to consider the following:

  1. Finances: How much can I afford each month for housing?

  2. Level of Care: How much care will I need now and in the future?

  3. Level of Independence: Do I prefer to live alone or be a part of a community?

  4. Location: Do I want to be close to friends/family? In the city or rural area?

  5. Type of Housing: Am I looking for a single room or an apartment for myself and my spouse?

  6. Activities: Am I looking for a community that offers social activities like arts & craft, bingo, pickleball, yoga, outings, or games nights?

MROO’s HSOS (Housing Support for Ontario Seniors) committee has been hard at work exploring and researching various housing options for seniors in Ontario. The committee, which was formed in September 2020, is advocating for housing support options for Ontario seniors, including retirement living, home care, and long-term care and other housing in Ontario. Whether you are looking to downsize or age in place in your home, MROO has put together a variety of resources to help you navigate your retirement years.
