MROO Zone Directors: What They Do & Qualifications

Must be a MROO Life member, and an OMERS Pensioner, for at least two (2) years and reside in that zone.

Each of our nine (9) zones has a Zone Director, who is, by virtue of their elected position, also a board member.

Zone Director Responsibilities:

  • Zone Directors oversee and monitor the activities of the organization, approve budgets, attend board meetings, set policies, participate in Retirement Planning Seminars in their zone, and much more.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as on-line apps such as Zoom is important.
  • This position can require up to ten hours of work per week and Zone Directors receive a small honorarium for those tasks.
  • Some limited travel (for which they are compensated) is also required including travel to the four annual Board Meetings.
  • The Zone Director is also responsible for hosting the annual Spring Zone Meeting and other activities that take place in each zone.

Zone Directors are elected, or appointed if there if there are no nominees, for a three-year term, with a maximum of three terms. These elections take place at the Spring Zone Meetings and elections are staggered so only three (3) zones have elections in any single year.

Conditions to Apply:

1. The Executive Director will verify the validity of all nominations in accordance with the By-laws.

2. All nominees shall be MROO Life members and reside in the Zone in which they are nominated.

3. Nominations must bear the signature of the nominee, the nominator, and a seconder. The nominator and seconder shall both be Life members of MROO residing within the Zone in which the election is to take place.

4. Nominations for Director must be submitted in writing and received in the MROO office no later than 21 calendar days prior to the zone meeting at which the election will be held.

5. Where more than two (2) Life members are validly nominated for a position, an election will be conducted by the Executive Director at the Zone meeting at which the election will be held.

6. Where only one Life member is validly nominated for a position, that member shall be declared elected by acclamation
